Lost in
Translation

A PROPOSED EXHIBITION FOR THE NATIONAL ENVIRONMENT AGENCY SINGAPORE

sr

"The fishies are dying"

This is a simulated work created for my Studio Project 2. It is a preliminary project that prepares students for the Final Year Project in Year 3 of my  polytechnic course. For this studio project, I decided to brand and advertise a fictional event that I came up with.

THE MESSAGE:
As an environmentally-conscious person, I decided to use my project to educate little ones about plastic pollution in the sea. The aim is to educate them about this pressing issue in way that will be interesting for them. Thus, the presentation will be in the form of a "mystery solving" exhibition filled with hands-on activities and mazes. Children will have to solve the mystery of what happened to the marine animals with clues and record them in their booklets. When they manage to "escape" the maze and solve the mystery, they will receive a certification of achievement.

LOST IN TRANSLATION:
Channeling the message, the title of the exhibition is "Lost in Translation". It is a fun and mysterious title that is meant to intrigue the audience into wanting to find out more about the exhibition.

The title holds true to the "mystery solving" highlight of the exhibition. In a way, the animals are calling to us for help but because pollution is increasing (and we are the cause of it), their cries are left unheard.

ILLUSRTRATED STYLE:
I used a flat illustration style for this exhibition with minimal colours, apart from the signature colours. This draws attention to the key message. The key visuals are intriguing and feature a maze, which is essentially what the exhibition is about. There are elements of plastic in the visuals to drive the message home.

 DELIVERABLES:
To make the exhibition more welcoming and attractive, I decided to design and make some deliverables.
Namely:
1. Posters to increase awareness about the exhibition in public areas.
2. Brochures or catalogues for when visitors enter the exhibition.
3. A children's activity book, which parents can purchase for their
child to help keep them engaged during the exhibition.
4. Certificates of achievements to motivate children to complete the
     maze/exhibition.
5. Worksheets for when children participate in the activities.
6. Tickets to keep things interesting and maintain consistency with the
     theme of the exhibition.
7. Stationery in the form of a colouring box for children to use when
     they do the worksheet.
8. Phamplets to distribute in public.
9. Miscellaneous merchandise.
10. An official website.

SHOWREEL:To sum up the exhibition as a whole, I made a showreel and short TVC to promote the exhibition. This can be posted onto social media sites to help spread the word of the exhibition and increase visitorship.
